Distributor cap seal

Were there ever dust seals located in the two gaps between the distributor 
cap & the distributor body where the two base plate screws are located. The 
gaps 
are quite large & a friend says there originally was a rubber seal in the 
gap, but I can't find them in the parts book & I don't recall seeing them. If 
they actually existed is anyone selling them?
