Your friend got what he paid for. I have preached this to lots of my
customers, Get a professional to inspect it that knows that perticular model
of car before the purchase.

We do a lot of these pre inspections on all models of British cars. A good
complete pre inspection should run a minimum of $200.00. Now some may say
that is expensive but my response would be. In this case you paid $80.00 and
got what they said is a good car and now you are paying out $1,000.00 in
repairs. Now how much would it have cost to fly there and take a personal
look.

I can list many examples of this same thing happening to many people and
all these cars were good looking cars until you looked at them close.

We have a Healey in the shop at this time that was just purchased and paid a
good price for a good driver. The car looks nice at first view. The paint is
average, the interior older but in good shape, the engine is clean it uses
oil and has a rod noise when started cold. The transmission is noise in
first and reverse, the brakes are soft. When the car is up on the rack it
has bad sills, trunk floor, and outriggers. The body work is average to the
untrained eye but there is lots of imperfections. This car is in need of a
total restoration.
