This is an unsolicited endorsement, with no personal interest, but I needed
to tell someone, and my previous employers wouldn't be happy if I put it on
their website. I just put down the latest issue of the new British magazine
Octane. Haven't quite finished it yet, but it is the first of the British mags
that
I can say I'm reading cover to cover. They've really got traction now, after
developing the new mag for about a year. Cover story on Hawthorn's D-type and
Mark 1, stunning pictures of Ralph Lauren's stunning collection of cars that
he's now displaying at the Boston Museum of Art (cars he bought simply because
they're beautiful), Argentine rally, Gmund-birthplace of Porsche, Wolseley
sedans, great variety of other stories, fantastic photography and layout so
good
it makes my teeth hurt (as an erstwhile graphic artist, I used to dream about
being able to do layouts like these.
Unlike Classic Motorsports, which is a magazine about cars we actually play
with, this is a magazine about cars (and other things, such as the last steam
locomotive mainline trains, vintage motorcyles, and fine watches, but in very
small numbers in the back part of the mag) that we can admire.
Expensive, like the other two high-end British car mags, but it leaves them
in the weeds.
Cheers
