I copied the recent list of great drives from around the SF bay area to my
brother in law who lives in San Jose. He has one of those Arian sports cars
with the little star on the hood that two of the points must have fallen off.
He's a big explorer in his time off, and I asked him if he had anything to
add. He sent the following:

Zion Canyon in Utah due to views from convertible all around....like Yosemite
Valley
Monument Valley , Arizona....at sunset or after rain shower
Back roads from Escalante, Utah to Bullfrog , Arizona...have to then cross
lake Powell by a ferry that runs every four hours or so...to road that goes on
to Mexican Hat (Arizona)
Joshua Tree Nat Park! at sunrise or sunset especially...done both
Sequoia Nat Park! the trees just dwarf everything else.
Organ Pipe Nat Monument, Arizona...in the spring......way out of the way
Chocolate Mtns, north from Yuma, Arizona to Colorado river....spring
Ebets, Luther, Kaiser and Senora pass in Sierras, from the east side
especially in Sept/Oct
East or West route from Truckee to So Lake Tahoe
Death Valley, esp the back way in from Trune / Ballarat ... road goes just
north of Telescope Peak Mtn. Also, the north and west route out to 395.....
around the bay area
Tres Pinos (near Hollister) to New Idria (one way in and out for many
miles....spring time)...
Back road from Pescadero to summit and then to Si Valley...
