I wanted to let everyone know that this August's Austin Healey Encounter
Banquet speaker will be Mr. Stuart Turner, former Competitions Manager for BMC.
Stuart was in charge of BMC's Competitions group from 1961 through 1967. While
at BMC he was at the heart of the rallies with the Austin Healey and Mini
Coppers (including the Monte wins). He was also instrumental in bringing Timo
Makinen and Rauno Aaltonen to BMC's Rally Team. He left BMC to join Castrol as
Publicity Manager, starting their Club Support Program. He then became
Competition
Manager for Ford of Britain where he in pushed through the introduction of
the Sierra Cosworth, RS200 and Escort-Cosworth.
He is the author of over twenty motorsport and business books, including his
autobiography, "Twice Lucky." Stuart has won many prestigious awards
including, A Benedictine After Dinner Speaker of the Year Award. He has
entertained
members of various British Car Clubs over the world. The MG Car Club of Western
Australia's publication, The Octagon's editor stated; "I thought it was one of
the best talks I've ever heard. His insights into the stuff we usually only
read about were wonderful."
Another said, "He was so popular with the members after the meeting that we
literally had to drag him away to be chauffeured back to his hotel as his wife,
Margaret, was becoming a little weary by 11:15."
