Joe,
If you have not destroyed the old washer and if it is the one I am thinking
of it can be reinstalled.
One needs to bend it so it is concave or convex. This changes the I.D.
enough that it will come on and off easily.
I had to figure this out when I replaced the valve. It was really
frustrating until I realized how simple the attachment method was.
