Hi Dick,
The later series horns as found on the BJ8, in fact all Mk 2's and 3's are
serviceable once the rivets are drilled out. Then you can gain access to the
inside. Here you will find that the most common reason for failure is
usually corrosion of the electrical points. Once these are carefully
cleaned, most horns spring to life. Some freeing up and adjustment of the
adjusting screw is usually needed to bring the horn to it's fullest best
tone. Then finish the job by installing the appropriate sized pop rivets to
reassemble the sandwiched parts.
The earlier horns usually need the same remedies to get them back into
action, though it's been my experience with the earlier horns that the
biggest part of the job is just getting them apart. They have 6 steel screws
that have spent half a century imbedded in alloy threads. Have fun.
