I have a Danmig 140amp 120V mig which I love.(as much as you can love
something like that) It has more controls than most welders. You can stitch
weld by manually setting the time for current flow and gas only flow with 2
dials. Thats is especially good when welding aluminum or stainless to keep
oxygen out of the metal. The Danmig seems to spatter less than others I've
used (Miller, Hobart). This could be subjective since I have a better feel
for mine. I have a torch also but I think if I could start over again I'd go
with a TIG welder, You can do beautiful welds on any metal. www.danmig.com

While on the subject of tools for Healey restoration - I am considering
getting a welder for the lighter welding jobs needed on the steel body
work.
It's been a few years since I did any welding and that was with industrial
equipment. Any recommendations on a good, small, portable welding unit
that will
run on 115V ? I notice that Eastwood has a Hobart MIG unit listed for $500
that will weld up to 1/4 inch. Is that pretty much all I will need (plus a
helmet, cart, and a bottle of gas)? Thanks.
