Train Robber's Sports Car for Sale
By Hugo Duncan, PA News
A sports car once owned by Great Train Robber Bruce Reynolds could fetch
nearly #30,000 at auction.
The 1962 Austin Healey 3000 MKII was bought by Reynolds in 1963, shortly
after the infamous heist at Cheddington in Bedfordshire.
Reynolds and his gang made off with over #2.5 million equivalent to #40
million today - when they held up the Royal Mail travelling post office that
ran between Glasgow and London.
Reynolds was arrested in 1968 and sentenced to 25 years in prison, although
he was released in 1978.
In an effort to recoup some of the losses suffered in the robbery, the car
was auctioned off by the police at The Great Train Robbery Special Auction
Sale in 1969.
The handsome black roadster, with red leather interior, is up for sale
again at the H&H Classic Auctions Sale at Pavilion Gardens in Buxton,
Derbyshire, next Tuesday and Wednesday.
It is expected to fetch between #24,000 and #28,000.
