Hi, Diann -
The "Buy it now" prices seem to be abnormally low, based on what the cars look
like in the photographs. "Bidding restricted to pre-approved bidders" is also
a feature of many scams.
A few days ago, there was a BJ8 offered for sale on eBay at no reserve with a
starting bid of $100 -- 1 day auction only, the seller was in "France" but
would ship worldwide, bidding restricted to pre-approved bidders, etc. The
VIN given in the ad told me that the same car sold at the Barrett-Jackson
auction two years ago for $59,400. Even the eBay photograph was the same one
I printed off the Barrett-Jackson website two years ago. It's hard to believe
anyone could recoup $59,400 -- much less make a profit on a 1-day auction
beginning at only $100.
I wrote to the seller to inquire about all the above, and received an
automated reply welcoming me as a bidder. The seller was "traveling" at the
time. Right.
If anyone has a doubt about whether a BJ8 on eBay is legitimate, they are
welcome to ask me if I have any record of it. While the list server was down
a few weeks ago, the BJ8 registry added its 5,000th car. The count is now up
to 5,010. That's more than 28% of them.

Subject: Are these both Ebay Scams
Couple of Restored Healeys - going for a gr8 prices! - both listed in
Canadian
Dollars
Some on the list seem to know how to spot those not so honest Ebay
Auctions.
Noticed a couple last night, one was for a 1day listing and has since
expired,
and the other even though it was for a 5 day auction, the layout etc is
just
so much the same. Appreciate if someone can check them both out - and if
they
are in fact scams - they'd need to be reported.
