I just put a thin layer of wheel bearing grease on both sides of the
gasket. I set the gasket on the cylinder head and put the valve cover
on top of it. Then a go around with a dentist's probe and coax it into
position under the valve cover. The grease makes it stick to the
cylinder head well enough so that it stays where I put it.

Subject: valve cover oil leak-your solution
Am getting some oil leakage around the rear of the valve cover 1965 BJ8.
What's your experience in stopping leaks there? Do you use gasket sealer?
Just on bottom the valve cover gasket or top and bottom? What type?
Oil pressure is good and am not burning oil so I think the rockers are ok.
I have admittedly very old sealer on the bottom of the gasket only.
Andy
