I guess this problem goes back thirty years with the previous owner of my
BN-2. Occasionally the gearbox gets into a funky state where it seems to be
in two gears at the same time. From the advice of the guys at British Car
Specialists, this can only happen if the balls fitting in between the
selector shafts are missing. This appears to be the case seeing that I can
in fact slide both the middle and upper shafts ( 1,2nd and 3rd,4th resp.)
forward at the same time.
Today I will be removing the gearbox and digging into the situation to see
if they are in fact missing. I also notice from the parts blow up that there
is a pin going through the middle shaft. I don't know what this looks like
and I bet its missing as well.
Does anybody have a close up picture of this pin or even a drawing? I may
have it in one of the part boxes but I just don't know what it looks like.
>From the miniscule picture in the Moss catalog it looks like its more that
just a pin and it might have some features on it. Hopefully its still in
there but we'll find out when I open it up.
Does anybody have a recommendation about how to get at these components
without taking too much apart? I was going to remove the bell housing and
then loosen the set screw for the center shaft and slide it forward and then
look for my balls to drop out.
