Hi Bob,
Suppose you would want to balance the cost of a new core against the
possibility of a failure. Removing and replacing it later on is not a huge
deal, but then there is the question of where you might be, or what else gets
mussed if it does fail. Remember, if it hasn't ever been replaced, the core is
soon to be 40 years old, and may be brittle.
One major caution: If you do have the core replaced, make absolutely certain
that they understand that they are to preserve the metal ID plates ("tags") on
the top tank, front. (I'd even get it in writing). Otherwise there is a good
chance they will be lost in one of the cleaning tanks they use in prepping the
top and bottom tanks! (Don't ask!!). -Also, be sure to get the correct number
of core channels, if your car is concours.
I can't speak to the issue of new alloy radiators... I've seen a few, and they
really stand out as not original. -Maybe they cool better though, if you don't
mind straying from stock. maybe someone can help you there.

Subject: BJ8 rad choices?
List,
For a fresh BJ8 restoration, what is the current
wisdom for the radiator - back flush, or new core, or
new ali rad?
Suggestions please from the experienced folks.
Thanks.
