Hi All,
I have been away for quite a few months and this weekend sought to get
my 100~Six going again and out for a run. Of course the battery didn't
have enough juice to turn over the engine so I hooked up a trickle
charger/conditioner to try and assist - here is where I know I did the
wrong thing and already I can see heads shaking. I knew I should have
disconnected it first but I was excited to get her running again.
Initially when I turned the battery cutoff switch on and turned the
ignition Key the fuel pump made it's click, click, click and the fuel
gauge sprung to life so I knew there was some juice and the fuel pump
was working. After tapping a stuck float on one of the carbs it even
stopped gushing fuel. So all is well. However when I connected that
charger up in situ that is when I tried to turn the ignition on again
and start the car when the fuel pump was completely silent. So I am
afraid I burnt something out?
If anyone can provide ideas of what to start with I would appreciate
the guidance. Everything else electrical looks OK, fuses look good,
gauges, lights and starter all work. My gut reaction is to pull the
fuel pump and check the points etc. It may be coincidence but I am
thinking it has something to do with connecting the charger and turning
the ignition on. If it helps I had the charger set to only charge at 2
amps (it has a setting up to 6)
Thanks all .. and I hope to have the Healey out and about again soon.
Regards
Rohan.
