I would never buy anything from e-bay with money up front without ironclad
safeguards.
My company lost $350,000.00 dollars of medical research instrumentation off a
loading dock at a trade show in SF. Ten months later, it was for sale on e-bay
out of New Orleans. (Going for $4,800.00!!!) The FBI agents we worked with to
recover the equipment told us that e-bay keeps an entire department busy
recovering and prosecuting stolen goods, and interstate fraud.
For substantial purchases, make arrangements in person or through a bonded
agent who can inspect the goods and can verify the validity of the transaction
before cash is exchanged.
You all are right, the registries and available histories are a great
resource!!
