i know we have talked this to death, but i want a fresh perspective. guy in
our club has a beautiful bj8 that just had $1400 worth of transmission work
done. never had a problem with od until after tranny work, although they did
not touch the od. at first it was a selonoid adjustment problem, as it would
not go into od. sunday when our car club dove up in the mountains, his od
would slip in and out of od constantly. did not matter whether uphill,
downhill or on the flat. our british car expert seem to think it is the
safety switch which should be turned slightly. i feel as this was never a
problem before, and has not been changed that i know of, it must be internal,
possibly the oil pump getting weak and not holding the parts together. any
ideas? as an aside, the bj8 that we had so much heat problems with is fixed.
a new 4 core radiator and a 6 blade flex fan took care of it. drove all the
way up the mountain and never got over 200 (OAT was 109 in valley and 87 on
the top of mt. charleston). we had one MGB fall out for a roadside repair.
seems he had just put in Petronix ignition and the motor just started cutting
out. after numerous attempts to continue, he finally put back the points and
condenser and continued up the mountain without mishap. made a believer out
of me. healeymanjim
