As I had written, I had mine Cadmium plated rather than zinc, because I had
been told the Cadmium was more durable to tools etc.
I don't know about tin.
I'd think that a do it yourself plating operation might be good for a few
parts, I don't know. I actually copper-plated some rivets for my car using a
mayonnaise jar and a battery charger!! (That was right about the time that my
buddies almost had me committed for "concours syndrome", when they saw that
bottle of green fluid and wired rivets fizzing away on the workbench)
-But for the volume of parts in a Healey, I went to a plater. -Unlike with
chrome where all of the bits are suspended individually on wires, -the cad
plater put the (2 1/2 gallons? of) Healey hardware into a screened drum, which
was electrically charged and submerged in the plating tank. During the
plating, the drum revolved very slowly, tumbling the parts to ensure even
plating and to prevent the plating from fusing them all together! -Not your
average home operation
