Ron,

I unplugged my tank filter by drilling a 1/4" hole down through the 90 
degree fuel outlet fitting so I could ram wire down the hole. It may have 
knocked the filter off, I don't know. Once you have punched a hole in the 
filter or knocked it off you can then tap the hole (1/4-26 TPI) and plug it 
with a threaded brass dowel. Cut a slot in the dowel to screw it in then 
solder it in place and file it smooth. I cleaned and filled my tank with 
water before applying heat. Usual common sense precautions apply, no 
guaranties.

The other way would be to get a good pick up pipe with some tank sheet 
metal in place and have the piece grafted on but that involves tank welding.
