On my BJ8 I have 72 spoke chrome plated wheels which I
bought from Motor Wheel Service (in the UK) about 15
years ago. From what I understand about these wheels
is that they were manufactured and assembled in India.
After using them a short while... I noticed some
spokes breaking (about a year after I mounted them).
After that it got progressively worse and worse until
I had an average of about 20 spokes broken on each
wheel after only having them for about 5 years (I had
replaced several spokes myself over that time).
I finally got majorly frustrated, and sent the wheels
to British Wire Wheel in Santa Cruz (I think Bruce
Erfer owned it at that time) and they completely
relaced each wheel with highly polished stainless
steel spokes, and then trued them properly. I did
this 10 years ago.
I HAVENT HAD A SINGLE BROKEN SPOKE SINCE.
I would highly suggest having your wheels relaced with
Stainless Steel spokes/nipples and trued by either
Hendrix (on the east coast... I would suggest they are
your first choice, I've heard nothing but high regard
for them: http://www.hendrixwirewheel.com/) or British
Wire Wheel in California (I've heard they've grown a
little too big, but they can still do a decent job for
you: http://www.britishwirewheel.com/).
You must have a british wire wheel specialist fix your
wheels (all of them).
