PAT MOSS & ERIK CARLSSON - EUROPEAN RALLY CHAMPIONS
Upon instruction from Mr & Mrs Erik Carlsson, we are pleased to offer for sale
by auction a
collection of trophies & mementos from the heyday of rallying from 1950s-1970s,
representing major
victories in International Rally & Motor Sports events in Europe and on all
Continents.
On offer is a cross-section representing their achievements during an
unprecedented period of
significant interest in World Rallying. The highlight is the magnificent "Redex
Trophy"
(hallmarked silver, standing over two feet high), from the Monte Carlo Rally,
awarded in
perpetuity to Erik Carlsson on attaining his 3rd Outright win in this marathon
event in 1963; He
also won the Prince Ranier Cup for his win in 1962. Driving almost uniquely for
Saab, which he put
squarely at the forefront of the Sport, he achieved wins in almost every
important event in the
International Calendar over an extensive period.
Not to be outdone, Pat Moss, who started a highly successful sporting career
with horses as a
child & teenager, won numerous trophies in equestrian & show-jumping events,
before following in
her brother Stirling's footsteps, turning her attention to four-wheeled
thoroughbreds in motor
sport. Her rallying achievements are recognised here with winning trophies from
the Tulip Rally
with Elsie Wisdom and Pauline Mayman in 1960 & 1962 - also including a small
selection of fine
silver cups for equestrianism, and a group of trophies won by her mother Mrs
Aileen Moss, who was
a keen competitor in pre-war rally events. The victories won by this amazing
husband & wife duo
are probably unsurpassed in any sporting spheres.
