I finally sorted out my problem with the rough running and it all makes sense
now.
The crazy thing that was happening was that with new stock coils and sport
coils the engine ran even rougher than with a 30 year old coil.
What I finally figured out was that I had assembled the points and condenser
incorrectly. I had the condenser attached to ground, the bottom of the stack,
instead of on top of the first insulator, so it basically wasn't doing
anything. Oopps!
And it makes sense that the higher energy coils would run worse seeing that
the condenser is needed more in that situation.
Anyway I wanted to thank everyone that chimed in on my situation over the past
month and I wanted to make sure that the solution got documented in the
archives.
Sincerely
Rick Neves
