Recently bought a Nov, 1953 Popular Mechanix excerpt on ebay "McCahill Drives
The Austin Healey". It is a nice early review of the 100 with photos.
Fortunately, the seller gave me all the inclusive pages of the excerpt, and on
one of them, I couldn'thelp wondering if anyone had answered an ad for ...
"Build your own JET ENGINE!
Order these plans today
JET PROPELLED BYCYCLE. Assembel you own ... Photo and instructions $1.00..."
Accompanying the ad is a line drawing of an old fat tire kid's bike with a
cylindrical tubes that projecting aft of the rear tire that would be the envy
of any Harley freak.
Now, you really got to wonder...
1. Did anyone ever build one of these?
2. If anyone did, did they make it to the end of the street?
3. If anyone made it to the end of the street, what State did they land in?
Has anyone ever seen one of these original 'crotch rockets'? All ancedotes,
reminiscences and tall tales welcome!
