Peter, does your spring have the original zinc interleaf or maybe
plastic? If you have neither, you should dissassemble the springs and
add zinc or plastic between the leafs. Spring shops can do this for
you or you can find zinc sheet from a roofing contractor and cut it
to size. Other than that, WD40 is for kids, as it evaporates, you
need a stout grease, maybe lithium grease, but you would still have
to break up the springs, which is a pain because the clip screws are
peened closed so they wont fall out of the clip. Be prepared with
some new screws and a tap if you have to break open the springs...

My car has developed an enfuriating "creak" from the l.h. rear spring. Seems
to be coming from the front end of the spring but no amount of WD40 or
silicone spray makes any difference. Although probably not all that important
in itself, it's the sort of thing that has cars pulled apart because the owner
is being driven *#%#* crazy! Any ideas?
