Actually, that's what's hurting you here.
The more recent versions of the software (from the last year or so) have
been optimized to stabilize sample rate. But in doing so, they use more
CPU power.
What that means is that the older Palms with slower CPUs are even more
at risk of sample rate problems, while the newer Palms with faster CPUs
are better off. Your Pro is *extremely* old, and so that's why you've
got problems. Even the Palm III generation is negatively affected by the
latest software, though not disastrously so.
I think you want a Palm V generation or newer to get the most out of the
new software. The M-generation is better still. You can get an m105 from
the Palm Outlet for $80 right now; even cheaper deals come up there
every once in a while.
