The reason we suggest the M100 as the "Palm of choice" is
that it's dirt cheap at $129, already includes the proper
HotSync cable, and the 2 megs is still plenty of storage.
The HotSync cable is usually an extra charge, but the M100
includes it. Most Palms come with a HotSync *cradle*
instead of the cable, which is a more expensive part, but
not hte right part for our purposes. The help keep the M100
cheaper, they don't include the cradle, just the
cable...which is exactly what we prefer. The HotSync cable
is usually $15-20 extra on the other models, more like $40
extra on the V series.
The 2 megs of RAM allows about 4 hours of storage time. Our
software for the Palm only sorts out 99 runs, so that means
effectively that you can have either 4 hours of storage time
or 99 runs, whichever occurs first.
So for your particular use, 3 2-minute laps is no problem at
all, and can be stored in a single run. You could have up
to about 40 of those sessions on the M100 with no problem.
Keep in mind that the new lapping software allows us to
store even larger runs on the Palm and download them to the
PC for viewing. You can go up to 25 minutes per run if you
choose, which might be 12 or 14 laps (or more) on your 2
mile course. Then you might run out of room in only 9
sessions of 25 minutes each, though. :-)
Keep in mind that the Palm is only a recording computer...to
view the runs in GEEZ you need a full copy of GEEZ on a PC
system, either a laptop or a desktop.
The GEEZ Palm system is pretty small, I think about 80K
total for all of the programs and libraries. It won't cramp
your style on your Palm if you need to be able to use it for
other things. Likewise, if the stuff your wife wants to run
on the Palm needs more space, just buy what she needs...GEEZ
will work with any of the Palms currently on the market.
(And we mean "Palm" the brand name, not a generic term for
all PDA's.)
Regarding moving GEEZ to a desktop from your laptop, of
course you can. We allow you to install the software on as
many systems as you want or need, however only one of them
(at a time) will be the full version of the software; the
others will run in "demo" mode. Which ever system has the
"dongle" on the parallel port is the one running in full
mode. Without the dongle, it's "demo" mode. This plan
allows you to make copies everywhere that you plan on using
the product without having to buy a copy of the software for
each PC, or otherwise just ignoring our copyright. And of
course, this way we can encourage you to make copies of GEEZ
on your friends computers too.
