Erik;
I=E2=80=99m using the HVDA conversion to the Aisin W-58 5-speed. The first f=
our gears are almost identical to the TR gearbox. 5th is very deep. The W-58=
shifts smoothly and there is little chance of selecting the wrong gear as l=
ong as you have a gentle touch on the shifter. Mine was rebuilt before I ins=
talled it, yet the third gear synchro is a little weak. Using Redline MT 90=
.
I have been told that there are upgrades for both the synchros and fifth gea=
r, but so far I know nothing about them or where to source them.
The clutch disc that comes with the kit is a bit weak for an uprated engine.=
Updated competition clutches are available from both Spec and California Cl=
utch.
Installation of the kit is straightforward and relatively simple.

as a rather significant crack in the case near the bell housing. It's been w=
elded before, so additional welding is not looking promising. Like most A ty=
pe units, it leaks like a sieve and this one seems to only intermittently en=
gage. Therefore, I'm considering going to a 5-speed set up. Any experience w=
ith either the HVDA (Toyota based) or the Vitesse (Miata based) units? I'm a=
fan of originality, but I'm also tired of fighting the fun of O/D units and=
the fact that getting one properly rebuilt in the US seems to be very diffi=
cult.
