Hi Bryan,

I race a TR3 with a steering box and the non-adjustable steering shaft =
that went all the way from the wheel, straight to the worm gear.

I cut the steering shaft in the vicinity of the oil filter and welded a =
splined shaft end. Then, a double U-joint connecting to the top half of =
the shaft which attaches to the steering hub. To remove the steering =
wheel you must disconnect the U-joint and then pull the wheel and shaft =
out towards the driver=E2=80=99s seat. There are a couple of other =
components as well that locate the shaft and keep it from moving in or =
out. It was a big deal and I had help welding onto the stock (hollow) =
steering shaft.

no longer remove the shaft for repairs on the Steering gear. Just =
wondering if this is even possible because the older and larger I get =
the degree of difficulty getting in and out goes up. It would be nice =
to be able to remove the steering wheel .
