 All good recommendations Paul.=C2=A0
I store my paints and other flammable solvents in plastic storage bins in a=
small (3'x5'x5') shed outside.=C2=A0 That way they are not in the garage w=
here they may be ignited or contribute to a fire if one occurred.=C2=A0 Wit=
h the storage bins, there is containment, should one of the containers deve=
lop a leak.
Make sure that battery switches on the race cars are kept off, when in the =
garage.
If you have a battery powered winch in the trailer, be sure to have a batte=
ry disconnect switch or disconnect the battery all together, when not activ=
ely using the winch.=C2=A0=C2=A0

 FOT,

I have been lucky to work in some very well run industrial environments wit=
h world class safety equipment.=C2=A0 As we know, the stuff costs money and=
a lot of people work without most of it in their own environments.

We have been updating a lot of items in the areas that we work on car and c=
ar parts.=C2=A0 It is fun to spend money on tools and equipment.=C2=A0 Howe=
ver, safety equipment is not always as fun.=C2=A0 Near where we live, two p=
retty smart people have had fires damage their garages and parts of their h=
ouses before the fire department could arrive.=C2=A0 While I was running la=
rge car dealerships and body shops, I can tell you that fire extinguishers =
did need to be used from time to time.=C2=A0 Fortunately we had them and ne=
ver needed to make a call to the fire department, because the right things =
were in the right places.

Therefore, we just upgraded all of our safety equipment.=C2=A0 Including:

1.=C2=A0 Splatter/spark screens for areas that we weld or grind
2.=C2=A0 High quality US made fire extinguishers with plenty of capacity, i=
ncluding mounting them in the the trailer for at the track.=C2=A0 Some fire=
s can be spread really quickly by hitting the with H20.=C2=A0 Generally spe=
aking water will not put out burning oil fire.=C2=A0 However, it will sprea=
d the burning oil all over really quickly.
3.=C2=A0 Spark resistant blankets for use when we are welding in areas that=
 things should be covered
4.=C2=A0 Making sure all flammables are stored safely and away from areas t=
hat could have sparks
5.=C2=A0 New and updated smoke detectors, heat sensors and Carbon Monoxide =
monitors where they can be used (not where we tune engines)

Obviously common sense can prevent a lot of accidents.=C2=A0 Therefore, I t=
hough it would be interesting to see what the group has done in their work =
areas.

Does anyone have anything else that keep around that they feel is helpful f=
or shop area/garage safety?

Paul Ricco
