Just a few things to check-Make sure "no rust" means no rust, any structur=
al rust will be a $$$ job to repair, and yes the tub does provide some rigi=
dity to the structure.Plan on full hydraulic rebuild.Check U-joints, rear a=
xles, hubs.Drive if possible to see if the rear gear R&P whines or if diff =
gears have lash.Driveline vibrations?
Engine main bearings are prone to failure.Check crank end float.Compression=
check.Check gearbox for smooth shifts up and down and no excessive whine l=
ow & reverse.If the oil leak is directly @ L/H rear, coming from the head g=
asket, it's likely weeping from the oil feed hole to the top.The rest is pr=
etty much basic car, and any old Spitfire is likely gonna be a project, so =
in that sense it sounds perfect.Re value, it would have to be a good solid =
running Spit for that $$, but that's totally subjective.I've long told folk=
s who are getting into Brit sports cars, to try a Spit of Sprite/Midget fir=
st, to get a taste of it, and if one can deal with maintenance etc on one o=
f them it's time to step up into a real sports car, a B or big TR, etc.(not=
to piss off any Spitfire owners...)
