Yes in Europe we have to replace the ATL fuel cells every 5 years and the t=
echnical control has no mercy when the expiry date has arrived. And indeed =
you can use these fuel cells for another 2 year with a factory control but =
this control is more than half of the price of a new one because of the pac=
kage and sendings costs. Only way to escape : fitting an old original fuel =
tank, no matter how rusty inside and it doesn't matter if it is more than 6=
0 years old! And the original tank doesn't need foam inside! That all makes=
sense in very twisted ways: steel is lasting longer than foam. And also : =
if you can buy an ATL fuel cell ( instead of leaving the original tank alon=
e), you can buy one every 5 year.=20

I opened up the fuel cell in my =E2=80=9967 Morgan racer (hadn=E2=80=99t be=
en raced since 1989) and found nothing but gray powder inside the bladder. =
I was told it DNF=E2=80=99d its last race =E2=80=9Csomething to do with the=
fuel pump=E2=80=9D (there were two). I don=E2=80=99t know how long it take=
s foam to turn to dust when it=E2=80=99s not soaked in fuel but it seems pl=
ausible that disintegrating foam might have been the cause of the DNF.=20

mpression that these things aged out. My vintage organization does not requ=
ire certification or date tags, however, unlike on seat belts.=20
I called Fuel Safe, talked to a helpful tech, and he said if the bladder is=

in the fuel filter, and the bladder is still flexible, no cracking, it cou=

It should be inspected, but they were not pushing to sell me a new one. Jus=
