Hi - Thanks for all the input. I have a few cores and I've been poking aro=
und my parts to see if I have other bits to put things back together. I thi=
nk I can save the TranX, I will get it checked for cracks, just to be sure.

Regarding limited slip vs. locked - the TranX is by far the best one for MY=
driving style that I've tried. FWIW, I have three Quaifes, I like them - t=
hey reward smooth - but I hate them coming out of tight stuff. Inside Wheel=
 Spin City

Regarding welded stock diffs, it turns out that stock center sections are g=
etting harder to find because folks wait 'till "too late" to send 'em for r=
ebuilds and a lot of them have one or both carrier bearings spun and the be=
arings are no longer "interference fit". A lot of these are getting junked =
according to my small circle of Triumph nuts.

My ultimate goal is to have 3.45, 3.70, 4.10 and 4.33 available with Salisb=
ury-type limited slips in them. That helps me gear for various tracks. Seem=
s like my pick for PittRace was more or less on target. ;-)

 Hi Brian,
The answer is approximately 20% in both cases.

Hi Bob,
i am pretty sure that Tran X is the same as a Salisbury LSD and is still av=
ailable through TR Enterprises here in the UK.
I do not know what car you are using (TR4 i think) so a new Tran X is proba=
bly ok. I have 2 Salisbury LSD units in 2 axles for my TR4.
However, if you are running a TR6 then I would recommend a Gripper LSD as t=
hey can handle the extra power and need a lot less maintenance than the Sal=
isbury (I swapped out and sold both my Salisbury LSDs for 2 new Grippers fo=
r my TR6).
www.gripperlsd.com
Of interest my TR4 produces 194 bhp at the flywheel and my TR6 produces 252=
 bhp at the flywheel.
Hope that helps,
Keith

 Hi,
I broke a diff at Thompson back in October and I finally did a post-mortem.=
Looks like a couple of bolts backed out and when the shit hit the fan, the=
4 or 5 that were still holding on sheared off. In any case, lots of metal =
bits in there. Some of the big pieces bounced around in the diff and there'=
s some gouges in the Tran-X center section. The question to the group is - =
assuming that I find no cracks in the center section, it it accepted practi=
ce to clean off the dings to prevent stress risers and re-use it or is this=
 a "tosser".
Speaking of Tran-X, does anyone sell those now or are we limited to Quaife =
and GKN? I see that Rimmer lists both of those units. To be honest, I'm not=
a fan of Quaife because I have to run the rear a lot softer to prevent whe=
el spin in the tight stuff - that kills my times at places like Thompson an=
d Palmer (like 1.5 to 2 seconds a lap.) Speaking of GKN, I know nothing abo=
ut them other than "clutch type differential". Feel free to chime in if you=
 have experience with those units.

Also, I am nearly 100% certain that I was using new lock washers and Red Lo=
ctite high strength thread compound, so the bolts backing out was a total s=
urprise when I cracked the case open. I was assuming that the pinion head h=
ad sheared off based on how the car felt when the diff broke. It was BANG a=
nd done - box full of neutrals.
Off topic - looks like I'm not driving at ButtonWillow, I got a reply from =
Joe Siam that he has nothing available for that date. Oh well. Look like my=
budget is going to gears and stuff anyway... ;-)

rial, sans-serif;font-size:13px;">I broke a diff at Thompson back in Octobe=
r and I finally did a post-mortem. Looks like a couple of bolts backed out =
and when the shit hit the fan, the 4 or 5 that were still holding on sheare=
d off. In any case, lots of metal bits in there. Some of the big pieces bou=
nced around in the diff and there's some gouges in the Tran-X center sectio=
n. The question to the group is - assuming that I find no cracks in the cen=
ter section, it it accepted practice to clean off the dings to prevent stre=
ss risers and re-use it or is this a "tosser".</div><div class=3D"yiv868663=

rif;font-size:13px;">Speaking of Tran-X, does anyone sell those now or are =
we limited to Quaife and GKN? I see that Rimmer lists both of those units. =
To be honest, I'm not a fan of Quaife because I have to run the rear a lot =
softer to prevent wheel spin in the tight stuff - that kills my times at pl=
aces like Thompson and Palmer (like 1.5 to 2 seconds a lap.) Speaking of GK=
