Halon 1211 (it?s a liquified gas) can cause cardiac arrhythmia but a
concentrated dose of long duration is required. It does displace oxygen but
that?s not its main method of fire suppression, as with CO2:

I?m using Cold Fire foam (I bought the entire setup from Jegs), which is
similar to AFFF. Its down side is that everything gets slippery but the big
upside is that if you end up directly over a pool of fuel it will smother it
and suppress the vapors whether it?s on fire or not. I want the longest
possible period to extricate myself (assuming I can get out on my own).

I didn?t want to use dry chemical (harder to clean up and it will corrode
aluminum) or Halon or its replacement, Halotron, because although it excels at
putting out a fire, it works best in an enclosed area and once the wind blows
away the agent it can?t stop a reignition.
