Here is what I did on my BJ8. It?s nuts that?s welded under the plate, not 
bolts. On my car one nut was loose, got it welded back in place with not too 
many problems.

Also several threads were bad, fixed them with a heli coil set. 

Today I would probably remove the plate and weld 4 new nuts below. There is not 
much room to work on with that heli coil set.

How can the bolts be upside down?  Please describe it better so we can help.

have at some point come loose, striped the threads on both the bolts and shock
