Hi Jeff,=20
Yeah..."still getting used to", and driving right on by the racers around y=
ou.=20
I got accepted into the Monterey Reunion. Yippee! I'll be experiencing the =
Vintage TDs soon. Seven events as a driver and going to a third tire choice=
already.=20
It would be nice to have some parity in tire selection/choices. Then I woul=
dn't have to spend another grand on a set of tires.=20
I went 3 tenths faster with A048s than the Speedsters at Sonoma. That doesn=
't mean much with my limited experience.=20
Glad you wrote,=20

Hey all, after reading the recent tire posts I went to the SVRA website, an=
d sure enough, a revised tire regs, dated 4/16 limits the tires. Since I ju=
st stopped using the bias ply Hoosier Vintage TDs last year (after 19 years=
!), I=E2=80=99m hardly one to comment on the more modern radials. I went wi=
th the Speedster 185/65-15 for mainly fit and appearance reasons. Got to sa=
y I love them, but it takes a different driving style that I am still getti=
ng used to after 19 years of tossing the old TR3 around on bias ply tires. =
I am concerned however about the extra stresses and strains these stickier =
radials are putting on the chassis. What is the next thing that is going to=
break?! How about we all agree to race on bias ply Dunlops? That way we wo=
uld all be on the same playing field, and those Dunlops last forever!=20
At SVRA Sebring this past March, I had to have my HANS re-strapped, and re-=
certified for $65. Vendor right next to tech! My SFI rated belts were fairl=
y new so I escaped buying new ones. I just purchased some new belts for my =
Lotus and went with the FIA that had the 5 year expiration. Cost another $1=
00 from Simpson, but worth it if the SFIs are only good for 2 years! Also c=
hecked the fire system bottle in the Lotus. It was 20+ years old and filled=
with Halon. Pegasus had an interchangeable bottle with the new stuff, so I=
ordered one. Surprised when it arrived with only a 2 year certification, n=
eeds to be re-certified every 2 years!!=20
Ya know, Vintage Racing just isn=E2=80=99t what it was a number of years ag=
o. Thank goodness for the =E2=80=9Cclubs=E2=80=9D VRG, VSCDA, VDCA, etc. Bu=
t, it is still fun and I enjoy the "competition and camaraderie!"=20
