The jetting is probably not far off, but the carbs are really to small for
the size and breathing capacity of the engine for racing. The largest size
chokes made for a 40 dcoe is 36 mm. We have found on the dyno that 45 dcoe
carburators on a full race 87mm engine use 38mm chokes with 5.0 auxiliary
venturies for best power throughout the rpm range. Smaller chokes than that
start to kill the power above 5500 rpm without helping lower down, this
would be with a cam of over 295 degrees duration where the engine "comes on
the can" about 3800 rpm. If you are using a cam that is shorter than 290
degrees duration, smaller chokes might be ok. for the best power in the
range the engine will be running.
