All this chatter about vacuum systems got me thinking. Obviously, the system
relies on having a closed crankcase. My crankcase vents to my catch tank. I
have two lines to the catch tank, one from the fuel pump blank on the block,
the other to the rocker cover. Most setups I see are quite similar. Are you
guys running the vacuum systems running a similar catch tank setup, but
without the vent?
Another thought, while I have witnessed race cars with vacuum systems that
were remarkedly free of oil drips, I have also seen cars with vacuum systems
that leak just as bad or worse than typical. I believe a vacuum system will
make a good, tight engine surprisingly dry, but can't overcome any
significant issues with a shoddy build. If the system can't pull a vacuum
because of leaks, it's not going to do much.
