we had one guy metalize his crank and put the scroll lines in the crank back
in.

i suspect that metalizing and grinding back to OEM only will get the job done
with the VITON SEAL.

Of course I am a believer in the vacuum system, too.

Thanks Jim

Can you use Chris' seal without the scroll? I'm a big fan of the Viton seal.

Metalize seal diameter and regrind to OEM dimension and install Christian
Marx' VITON SEAL.

Install vacuum system to crankcase, if you have not already.

I have had my share of machine shop disappointments over the years but this
one
hurt. I had two stock crankshafts cryo treated and reground with the
intention
of building a lower rpm motor using Larry Young's camshafts and replacing the
crank in my son't TR4 racecar. At the time the machinist I had been using
went
out of business and I tried a guy that had been recommended by a couple of
Spitfire guys in my local club. Long story short, he screwed up the grind on
the
scroll seal and overcut it. I put the crank in the TR4 and trimmed the seal a
little bit but the car leaks too much oil. Not very scientific, I know but I
was
desparate. Before I start experimenting has anyone found on oversize split
seal,
or split a seal on their own and could offer advice? I'd hate to throw two
cranks in the metal bin.
