I scanned a bunch of slides last winter, including the four rolls I took
in 1968, when I toured Europe in my TR250. Flatbed scanners really suck
for doing slides. You have to have a dedicated 35mm scanner (for slides
or negatives). These have recently come down to within my price range.
I first borrowed a Nikon scanner, but then bought an OpticFilm scanner.
I scanned most of mine at 4795x3145, which is half the max resolution.
I've been amazed at being able to zoom in and read small road signs,
etc. Mine has a holder for four slides. It is a bit tedious, but not
much worse than scanning stuff on a flatbed scanner. Besides, you can
do it while you are doing something else, like watching the NFL playoffs.
