Amici,
The assessment:
Last weekend at Blackhawk farms I had a major aluminum flywheel failure. The
ring gear and flywheel became two separate pieces and (the ring
gear) bounced around like a hoola hoop inside the bell housing turning much
of the flywheel into fine aluminum dust. It destroyed the Starter
and significantly "filed down" the inside if the bell housing. On the plus
side the Tilton Clutch appears unharmed as well as the Trans, input shaft,
etc. looking all O.K.
So with all parts I need on the shelf except the Trick Tilton Flywheel, I am
looking for a replacement. I suspect the clutch and flywheel set up I have
to be from the late seventies or early eighties. (as race notes from the
early - mid eighties notate the regular replacement of Tilton cluch disk
packs). The clutch has a gold colored case, 2 disks, and 6 mounting bolts to
the flywheel.
I contacted Tilton Industries today and they do not have the flywheel in
stock (no real surprise) and do not make aluminum flywheels for this
application anymore. They recommended a company from Califoria (Anaheim)
called AASCO Motorsports that is a Tilton distributor and handles these
types of orders on a regular basis. AASCO is involved with racing and
specialize in Custom Flywheels especially with Tilton applications.
Contacted them and they will make me a duplicate of the one I have...Send
them the old tattered flywheel and clutch and they will make new aluminum
one.
The Question:
Is there a FoT member with a source for the flywheel I need? Or perhaps
someone from our group who also could make me the Flywheel? Most
importantly, I need it as soon as possible... because I NEED TO RACE!
Thanks for Any recommendation for a better source or if I should just send
it out to AASCO Motorsports?
