The Mahle pistons have steel struts cast into the piston skirts to control
skirt size and expansion when hot. That allows them to be run with tighter
skirt to cylinder wall clearances. They are great for street use and up to
about 5500 rpm. Because of the added weight compared to the AE Hepolite
pistons (or forged racing pistons) we never considered them really suitable
for racing or high rpm use.
