Perhaps some fundamental difference between nanny state Germany and nanny
state United States? That and the fact that the Nordschliefe is not really a
race track anymore. You pays your money and you takes yer lap, regardless of
what motor-driven contrivance you might choose to bring. People drive at
similar speeds on the road that runs past my house in Portland
(coincidentally, the infamous Germantown Road) with no helmet, harness and
traffic coming the other way.
Now that I think about it, I do too.
