I'm not 100% certain of this, but I'm fairly certain that the numbers on
the ring and pinions are "arbitrary" numbers that are used to denote
matched gear sets.
Of course after 40 years and who knows how many times some of the parts
have changed hands, there's a fairly good likelyhood that gear sets that
are exchanged as "loose parts" are not matched sets any more.
