Tony,
I have an Avalanche that I tow my double deck trailer with two Spits and it
does just fine.
It has a cover for the back end so I can get a lot of stuff in it and with
the back seats laid down, it makes a lot more room for storage.
And since it has four doors, it makes a very good casual vehicle when not
going to events.

Subject: [Fot] Towing
So we had the discussion on using a GT-6 as a tow car (LOVE it). And
I've been trying to resist morphing this into the full on annual tow
vehicle discussion, but I can't help myself.
I have a pretty heavy open trailer with a weight jacker hitch that I
tow my TR-4 with. I use a Chevy Astro van loaded to the gills and am
generally pretty happy with it. It would be nice to move up about
one notch in power though. My current one is getting a bit long in
the tooth (at least from a miles standpoint) - I just turned over
166,000 miles. Of course, I've replace MANY parts throughout my
tenure with this, some expected, some not expected. The intake
manifold gasket replacement sucked the big one but was cheap since I
did it myself, and the brake booster blowout ended up being almost
$2500 due to the incompetence of the initial repair (should have been
$1200 and done).
Anyway, GM quit making these things and I'm toying with what to get
as a replacement. It doesn't have to happen right away, I can keep
this one going probably past 200,000.
What I'm looking for is a USED, CHEAP, GREAT tow vehicle. I really
like the van idea because I can put a bunch of stuff in it out of the
rain and such, it's semi-practical when I'm NOT towing, and I can
carry PEOPLE with it too. I can have my big cooler within arms reach
while on the road. I'm thinking about a lower mileage Astro from one
of the last years of manufacture. I paid $2900 for my Astro a few
years ago (had a bit over 100,000 on it then), so that gives you an
idea of how I work. It was an incredible value in my book. (The
money goes in the RACE car.) So, let's say $7,500 max purchase price.
A pickup with a back seat and a topper may be OK, or a BIG SUV may
work but seems like it has more to go wrong and is very space inefficient.
I'm interested to hear what you think would work...
Thanks, Tony Drews
