While I don't have a good answer for your question, it did remind me of a
racing experience with a roadside inspection. In 1975, one of my best friends
decided to try racing his Spitfire at Sears Point for the first time. It's a
fairly long tow from Portland so his "sponsor" loaned him a motorhome for the
trip. Coming home, we decided to drive straight through so we could go to work
Monday morning. At about 5am, I was driving about 100 miles from home when I
was pulled over by a state trooper. The car of course was on an open trailer.
He asked to see my commercial permits and of course, I said "what???" Anyway,
after looking over the car for about 5 minutes, he let me on my way. Bottom
line he was bored at 5am.
BTW, I'm writing this from Portland Intl Raceway, where they now have good
wi-fi access. Patty's sprint race is in 90 minutes, the car's ready to go and
it's a sunny day - wahoo!

Subject: [Fot] towing and DOT
Hi Guys...got some questions regarding towing out Vintage vehicles and the
trucks and trailers we use...Mass has instituted a new DOT type inspection
for rigs with a GVW over 10,000lbs combined...I have no issue with
that...all for safety...but if there is a business connection, then the rule is
to
get a DOT number...and their "qualifications" for it being a business are
wide and varied...anyone have any experiences with roadside DOT
inspections?....Thanks...
