I always have the problem. I suspect that the female splines inside
the OD aren't totally lined up, that's what usually stops me 1/2"
from being done. I have a junk mainshaft that I've ground bevels
onto the splines to use to line them up. There are two sets of
splines that go over the mainshaft, and it helps to pull the clutch
mechanism inside the OD apart to free the two splines up, and then
mash it back together before assembly. I forget if you have to pull
up on the little cross bars over the pistons in the OD, or push them
down to release the internal clutch slightly.
