In May 1953 Ken Richardson, development engineer and test pilot
ofTriumph, drove a TR2, fitted with a standard engine, and reached
anaverage speed of 124,889 miles or 200,94 km per hour on the
Jabbekemotorway. At that time an amazing speed for a volume production
carwith a 2000 cc capacity. Ken Richardson, test pilot of BRM, was
hiredin 1952 by Sir John Black - who was in charge of the Standard
Triumphcompany in the post war period - to develop the "Triumph Sports
20 TS"prototype make a true sports car; so the TR2 was born. The TR2
was notonly as fast as his rival, the Austin Healey, but also cheaper
to buyand more economical in use : an average 32 mpg petrol consumption
or6,9 liter per 100 km with a 2 liter engine is even today a model
ofeconomy.
They had a anniversary run again in 2007 and if you can read German or
Dutch may be able to find more on triumph speed records.
