>>>Actually, the above statement is incorrect. The Herald DID get front disc
brakes, I seem to recall they came in, as an option at first in early 1963,
before being standardized.
The early Herald calipers were '12P', the Vitesse 6/Sports 6, had slightly
larger '14P' calipers, then '16P/16PB's on the final models, with attendant
larger discs/rotors, stub axles and bearings/hubs.

>>>The Herald and Spitfire vertical links are different to the Vitesse and
GT6 vertical links/caliper mounting arrangements.
The above is from memory, so I will have to look up the dates of changes etc
to be sure.

p.s. I have a book here which states that 'drum brakes were used on all
standard 948s and 1200s: 8" drums with twin leading shoes and two external
adjusters at the front', but it then goes on to say Heralds equipped with disc
brakes
and Vitesse 6s were fitted with 9" discs, whereas 2-litre and Mk.2 Vitesses
benefitted from 9.75" discs'.
It also says that 1963 Herald 12/50s gained 9" discs at the front, and this
specification contined for the Herald 13/60.
Revised front calipers were fitted to the Vitesse 6/Sports 6 in August 1962
(HB11535), the same change occuring on special order 1200s from August 1963
(GA121841), while 1200s and 12/50s from August 1967 (GA229455/GD54349) were
fitted with the larger calipers introduced on 13/60s.
This is all rather confusingly written in this originality guide!
Certainly, my own Feb 1967 built Herald Convertible GA223846CV, had front
discs fitted front new.
I will try and do a little more research in my reference materials and get
back to you on this!
