That makes sense in that magnesium is more active than zinc.  Its not a linear 
scale, but the further apart the two metals, the better.

Quite possible. The vintage Ferrari guys (with mostly aluminum blocks but brass
radiators) use magnesium alloys for the sacrificial anode.
