I stand corrected... Having been a TR4A owner for decades... with a TR7,
TR8 for a time... and some other TR's for a short time... I just
haven't studied the TR2 much as of yet! So... I need a PAINTED valve
cover folks and some whacky TR-2-specific cap.... HELP! : )
The car is very original. It looks like one of those cars you dream
about that's been sitting in a barn... the body is very straight. All
the doors open and close very smoothly and the seams all line up. It
has a factory hard top. Factory over-drive. Basically, the car is all
there. It just needs TLC. The paint has countless little chips, but
the car is so so straight. Rust is very limited and it doesn't look
like it will be an issue.
A previous owner took the interior apart in preparations to put in a new
one from Moss... but I will likely put it all back in. I'll need to
re-do a lot of the leather work... and I'll have the seats re-done to
an original standard (in leather).
I don't know much about the mechanical yet, as I haven't had the time to
dive into them. The car clearly has sat since at least 1983
(registration tags). It comes with a story of being well taken care of
and garaged. It explains the condition. I even have the original
top, etc with the original windows... etc.
I really love the look of the car as it is. Some things will just have
to be replaced... like the carpet. As well as some broken or missing
parts, etc.
In the end, though... I think what will make this car outstanding is the
way it looks now. It's great when people do ground up restorations,
with perfect paint, etc... but now when I go to car shows, that's all
that shows up... rows and rows of PERFECT restorations with great
paint, etc. I still love to see a nice beater... Just as I like
to see cars where the owners have fun with them and don't necessarily
stay stock. (I hear booing and hissing from some of you, but if someone
wants to mess around with a Spitfire, a TR4A, etc... go for it, I say...
some future owner can always laugh and complain about the previous
owner, and put it all back.) However, with a car of this vintage...
and rarity... ORIGINAL is the only way to go.
I sent Andy some pics. I'll try to get some up on my web site in the
near future.
There will be other parts needed. As I want to keep that patina thing
going... I may be relying on you guys a lot... as opposed to Moss or
Mr.Runyan, etc. Not that they won't be needed too!
NOW... where the hell do I find the time to do all this?
