The Competition Department TR-4 was run there and the record at the time =
was about 132 MPH. That was for cars up to 2.5 liters capacity. I did a =
story on that in my first book, the Preparation Handbook starting on =
page 228.=20

You need to qualify in the hot of the day and then run for record in the =
cool of the early morning. TOUGH TOUGH TOUGH.=20

The salt is at around 4200 feet altitude and the power drain is quickly =
seen. The salt is damp and rather sticky and gets into EVERYTHING. We =
finally did 128 mph average over the one mile.=20

Rumor has it that Ken Gillanders made a successful assault on the salt =
in the 50s.=20

What can be shared about that?=20

  Any other Triumphs do this?=20

I have been watching with great interest, that John Fitch is the =
driver for a M-B 300SL Roadster. And that he is going back next year for =
another try (at age 90!)=20

I would like to be there for that effort...and perhaps explore the =
possibilities for someone running a Triumph there.=20

  Any insights, from the LIST?=20

  Thanks,=20
